Pineapple is a great source of magnesium and iron but in less quantity than potassium. What facilitates digestion is an enzyme called "bromelain." What this enzyme does is to break down proteins and convert them into amino acids. It can even be used to tenderize meats. In the West it is used for dessert and in salads and also in oriental dishes.
